Remains of an abbey founded in the 12th century. Over the centuries the abbey was gradually added to, particularly in the first half of the 16th century by Abbot Robert Reid . The abbey is thought to have been reasonably entire until 1650, when it was sold and party removed to build a fort in Inverness for Cromwell. A number of marks have been recorded in the past but their locations not given. A subsequent visit by the Project photographed and recorded a number of marks but access could not be gained to the surviving part of the south transept due to a locked gate, so a full record of marks is not available at present. 18 marks were recorded on the visit with at least 10 different masons were noted. | | |
