A chapel built in 1241 stood on this site until replaced by a church in the second half of the 16th century. This was removed when the present building was erected in 1789-90. The architect was John Gibson and stone came from Craignathro Quarry. The clock tower is said to have been added in 1899-90 by John Carver, but the lower part appears earlier than the remainder of the church. Mason's marks were noted around the lower windows and doorway on the exterior of the tower but not on the exterior of the rest of the church which were photographed by the Project.19 marks were recorded of 7 different masons. | | |
